r34 nissan skyline driven by paul walker fetches record sum at auction

The R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R is one of the most iconic JDM cars in history, thanks to the Fast and the Furious movies, and the few that have made their way here over the years have sold for big bucks. Recently, a blue GT-R driven by Paul Walker in Fast & Furious 4 hit the auction block, and the result is surprising, even for an R34.

The final bid landed at $1,357,000, a staggering number for any car, let alone a Nissan, and more than double the previous auction record. Though many cars in the movie franchise seem to have just rolled through the sticker factory, Walker didn’t want to drive a “sticker bomber,” so the Nissan’s stunning blue paint shines through. The car’s interior features custom racing seats still set in Walker’s desired position.

While this car’s price reached the stratosphere, it’s now possible and legal to import a non-famous GT-R. That said, even everyday R34s carry a hefty premium because of their just-now-available import status for Americans. Most are listed north of $100,000, and while that number will likely fall a bit as more cars become available, looking at Toyota Supra values over the year indicates that the R34 could just be one of those cars that never really returns to reality.
